About this award

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) awarded $250,000 in project grant funding to the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities on August 5, 2025, under the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205). This award supports preconstruction planning and design work for the FFY25-26 Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) System-Wide Ferry Terminal Rehabilitation project, which will improve ferry terminal infrastructure at multiple locations statewide to extend service life and maintain operational functionality.

The project encompasses comprehensive rehabilitation and upgrades to shoreside infrastructure assets across the AMHS network, including work on bridges, bulkheads, docks, floats, lift systems, dolphins, catwalks, gangways, hydraulic systems, parking facilities, buildings, utilities, and electrical systems at various terminal locations throughout Alaska. The $250,000 grant funds all preconstruction activities—including planning, preliminary engineering, environmental review, and design services—for both FFY 2025 and 2026, with separate construction projects to be established and funded independently upon completion of preconstruction work.
