About this award

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) was awarded a $4,019,777 Project Grant from the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program, Round 1B, on March 20, 2025. The grant funding will be used to develop and install two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and one hydrogen fueling station for public use, strategically located near Interstate 5 in Washington state. These stations will support the emissions-free movement of goods along the 2,500-mile West Coast Truck Charging and Fueling Corridor Project, which connects major ports, freight centers, and agricultural regions between the U.S. borders with Mexico and Canada. The project aims to enable zero-emission truck operations by providing critical infrastructure along key freight corridors.

Description

Project description
Develop a competitive solicitation to evaluate, recommend, and install two electric charging stations and one hydrogen fueling station, for public use, in proximity to interstate 5 off WSDOT right of way in washington state. These stations will be open to zero-emission trucks (medium and heavy duty). Sites will be strategically located based on key factors including highway accessibility, electrical capacity, proximity to freight facilities and existing fueling stations, development costs, and community input. Once constructed, these stations will be operated and maintained by the private sector. This funding is from fhwa's charging and fueling infrastructure (CFI) discretionary grant program, round 1B., for the larger project called 'west coast truck charging and fueling corridor project' along 2,500 miles of key freight corridors in california, oregon, and washington. The project will enable the emissions-free movement of goods connecting major ports, freight centers, and agricultural regions between the U.S. Borders with mexico and canada.
