About this award
The Department of Transportation Maritime Administration awarded the City of Long Beach Harbor Department $472.293 million on June 2, 2026, under the National Infrastructure Project Assistance (Mega Projects) program (CFDA 20.937) to complete the Pier B Ondock Rail Support Facility Program.
The project delivers North and South Rail Yard expansions at the Port of Long Beach. The North Rail Yard Expansion constructs two new mainline tracks, five new approximately 10,000-foot receiving and departure tracks extending from west of the Dominguez Channel to the Pico Avenue Rail Corridor, and 28 new storage tracks north of the existing Pier B yard. It also installs active at-grade warning devices and railroad preemption with a new traffic signal at Pier B Street. The South Rail Yard Expansion adds seven new approximately 3,000-foot storage tracks, lengthens and rehabilitates seven existing approximately 3,000-foot storage tracks, constructs two new tracks in the Pico Avenue Rail Corridor, reconfigures tracks near Pier D Street, and constructs a new compressed air facility. Work includes architectural and engineering services during construction, engineering during construction, project management, and construction support through bid, award, and closeout phases.
Place of performance is Long Beach, California. The period of performance extends through December 19, 2033. The Harbor Department, a division of the City of Long Beach operating as the Port of Long Beach, is the recipient.
