Description
- Purpose
- The purpose of this grant is to provide support for GSC25, the genomic standards consortium (GSC) annual meeting.
- Activities
- The GSC convenes annual meetings to tackle technical, metadata, and reproducibility challenges related to sample collection, processing, and genomic sequencing workflows critical for small- and large-scale datasets. The annual meetings of the genomic standards consortium are focused on the development of new genomic standards; thrashing out the challenges of data reproducibility and reuse; and provide a novel venue for community engagement with the goal of making genomic data fair and compatible for data reuse. The final day will include a hands-on workshop towards advancing evolving mixs metadata standards in edna and ancientdna along with automation of the mixs standards development and release process.
- Expected outcomes
- Consensus from the global community on utility of current metadata standards and needs for the evolving metadata standards. Exchange of knowledge on the state of the art in microbiome research including biodiversity, ecology, ancientdna, edna and the metadata standards that support the comparability of these efforts.
- Intended beneficiaries
- This meeting is a primary location for developing, iterating and evaluating the microbiome genomic data standards and standards for genomic and measurement methods. These standards benefit a wide range of research by ensuring metagenomic data is findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (fair). Additionally, these standards are going to help lay the foundation for AI applications based on microbiome data.
- Subrecipient activities
- The recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
