The Internal Revenue Service awarded Hispanic Unity of Florida, Inc., $150,000 under the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Matching Grant Program (CFDA 21.009) for the period October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026.
The award funds free tax return preparation and electronic filing services for low- to moderate-income taxpayers, persons with disabilities, individuals with limited English proficiency, Native Americans, rural residents, members of the Armed Forces and their families, and elderly taxpayers. Hispanic Unity of Florida operates VITA sites in Florida and is expected to ensure at least 90 percent of returns prepared serve individuals whose income does not exceed Earned Income Tax Credit thresholds, file all eligible returns electronically, achieve 100 percent of return production goals, and demonstrate year-over-year increases in return preparation volume. The organization must maintain quality control standards and provide enhanced volunteer training.
The VITA Matching Grant Program supports organizations that extend services to underserved populations in both urban and non-urban areas, increase electronic filing capacity, heighten quality control, and improve return accuracy. Recipients may utilize sub-recipients to deliver key program elements, provided they adhere to grant guidelines.
