Federal Grant Award Summary
First Tennessee Human Resource Agency (FTHRA) received a $494,507 Project Grant award from the Corporation for National and Community Service's Office of Grants Management, effective July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029, to support the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program (FGP), CFDA 94.011. This intergenerational program engages volunteers aged 55 and older with limited incomes to provide direct mentoring, tutoring, and educational support to children with special needs or who are academically or socially disadvantaged in Northeast Tennessee's tri-cities region (Bristol, Johnson City, and Kingsport) and surrounding communities. Volunteers commit an average of 20 hours per week delivering one-on-one services in schools, Head Start programs, childcare centers, and other community settings.
The award requires FTHRA to maintain a statutory match of 10 percent and a budgetary match of 11.67 percent. Grant recipients must comply with comprehensive record-keeping requirements for three years following submission of the final Federal Financial Report, including financial records, personnel documentation, and National Service Criminal History Checks for all compensated individuals. This funding supports FTHRA's ongoing intergenerational service initiative addressing critical educational and developmental support gaps while creating meaningful volunteer engagement opportunities for limited-income seniors.
