About this award
The Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service awarded the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction $2.297 million under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (CFDA 10.567) on October 1, 2025, for the period October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2027.
FDPIR provides USDA Foods to income-eligible households living on Indian reservations and in approved areas near reservations. The program supplies over 100 domestically purchased items including frozen and canned meats and fish, canned and dry beans, peanut butter and nuts, frozen and canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, rice, cereal, dairy, and oil/butter. Through a partnership between USDA and the Department of Defense Defense Logistics Agency, the program includes fresh fruits, vegetables, and fresh eggs. Administrative funding supports program operations including household certification, food ordering and distribution, and record maintenance. Households receive supplemental monthly food packages selected in accordance with federal guide rates based on household size, with certification periods not exceeding one year except for elderly or disabled households, which may be certified for up to 24 months.
Performance occurs in North Dakota. The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction passes funding to sub-recipients including Trenton Indian Service Area Development Corporation (doing business as Trenton Community Clinic) and Three Affiliated Tribes (doing business as MHA Nation), both federally recognized tribal entities. Sub-awards to these recipients were awarded November 30, 2025 and January 31, 2026, respectively, to administer FDPIR and related child nutrition programs serving meal provision to tribal populations across the state.
