Description

Abstract
This finders foundry award allows students to engage with up-to-date AI technologies that uplevel college and workforce readiness and increase awareness of possible career paths. Traditionally, high school students? Education provides limited exposure to modern technologies and hands on stem projects. This project will develop project-based learning modulues that integrate digital simulation AI/robotics instruction, and hands-on experiences. The learning modules will undergo an iterative CO-design process with educator, student, researcher, and industry feedback to refine usability, and strengthen alignment with college and workforce readiness competencies relevant to AI, robotics, and autonomous systems. Anticipated outcomes of the planned innovation include college and workforce readiness, increased awareness of possible career paths, and increased AI literacy. This finders foundry award creates pathways from classroom learning to real-world engineering application by integrates an existing simulation platform with project-based learning, AI/robotics instruction, and hands-on experiences. Students develop foundational skills in machine learning, image recognition, robotics, coding, and automation through guided simulations, collaborative design challenges, and community-based engineering projects. The digital platform provides a low-barrier environment where students can prototype, test, refine, and iterate solutions using simulation-based digital twin experiences before applying concepts within physical robotics and manufacturing environments. A partnership with a university lab will extend the learning experience through access to industrial automation systems, robotics equipment, and advanced manufacturing environments where students can observe and apply concepts explored on the digital platform. By integrating real-world engineering into project based learning, this project prepares students for high demand careers in advanced manufacturing and AI enabled industries. This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.- subawards are planned for this award.
