The project aims to create an open-source repository of up to 15 hands-on, low-cost AI literacy activities that can be led by educators...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (CFDA 47.084) Project Grant award of $275,000 will support the development of an AI-enhanced platform to empower K-12 teachers with high-quality and inclusive math instruction. The project aims to tackle challenges in K-12 math education by integrating new AI models to assist teachers in generating personalized lesson materials, providing formative assessment, auto-scoring, and generating diagnostic reports...
- This $199,503 Project Grant awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the STEM Education (CFDA 47.076) program will fund a large-scale, mixed-methods study to understand perceptions and use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in K-12 education. The one-year project will survey a nationally representative sample of parents, teachers, and youth to identify opportunities, risks, and supports needed for integrating AI-driven learning tools. The study will employ both...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Project Grant under CFDA 47.076 STEM Education (formerly Education and Human Resources) provides $489,803 to North Carolina State University (NC State) to establish and nurture a research-practice partnership called "AI by 8" focused on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) concepts into K-2 English Language Arts (ELA) instruction for rural North Carolina students. The project aims to directly impact 30 teachers and approximately 600 students...
- This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) will support the development of a virtual classroom platform that uses large language model (LLM) simulated agents to facilitate collaborative learning of mathematical modeling for middle-school students. The $321,873 project aims to increase equitable access to effective mathematics education, particularly for students from under-resourced communities, by leveraging generative AI techniques....
- This $349,999 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) will support a research project at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) to investigate how to design and integrate artificial intelligence (AI) to support equitable K-12 science education. The project plans to explore the use of multimodal AI to provide automated feedback for formative science assessments, with the goal of generating design principles to develop...
- This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) program provides $200,000 to support a time-sensitive project that aims to empower teachers to harness the capabilities of large language models (LLMs) to create interactive, personalized STEM learning resources. The project team, led by the Regents of the University of Michigan, will partner with WGBH Educational Foundation to develop a teacher-AI...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Project Grant award under the STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) provides $118,525 to Looking Glass Ventures LLC to research and develop an AI-powered tool for high school math teachers to automatically generate interactive, technology-enhanced assessments. The project, titled "COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH: RAPID: EMPOWERING MATH TEACHERS WITH AN AI TOOL FOR AUTO-GENERATION OF TECHNOLOGY-ENHANCED ASSESSMENTS", aims to showcase how AI and large...
- The Institute for Advancing Computing Education received a $192,790 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings under the STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076), effective October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2028. The primary product is a set of curriculum-agnostic instructional materials designed to support high school computer science (CS) education through artificial intelligence pair programming (AIPP)—a pedagogical...
PLANNING: NSF FF: PLANNING: AI LITERACY AFTERSCHOOL INTERVENTION -THIS FINDERS FOUNDRY AWARD SUPPORTS A PROTOTYPE OF AN AI TOOL AND CORRESPONDING AI LITERACY LESSON PLANS TO SUPPORT UPPER ELEMENTARY STUDENTS? ENGAGEMENT WITH STEM HOMEWORK. AI'S USE DURING HOMEWORK CONTEXTS REMAINS LARGELY UNSTRUCTURED AND ELEMENTARY STUDENTS MAY NOT YET BE DEVELOPMENTALLY PREPARED TO CRITICALLY EVALUATE AI-GENERATED INFORMATION. HOWEVER, AI TOOLS PAIRED WITH APPROPRIATE AI LITERACY SKILL DEVELOPMENT, MAY BE ONE SOLUTION FOR EXISTING GAPS IN SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS COMPREHENSION. THIS PROJECT INVESTIGATES HOW BOUNDED AI TOOLS CAN HELP KEEP FAMILIES ENGAGED AS CO-LEARNERS IN CHILDREN?S SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS HOMEWORK. THE PROTOTYPED IS DESIGNED TO REDUCE BARRIERS RELATED TO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE WHILE SUPPORTING MEANINGFUL, FAMILY-CENTERED LEARNING INTERACTIONS. THE PROJECT WILL DEVELOP ACCESSIBLE AI TOOLS AND FAMILY-FACING AI LITERACY SUPPORTS TO STRENGTHEN CONNECTIONS BETWEEN HOME AND SCHOOL LEARNING, WHICH CAN BE SCALED TO AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS REGIONALLY, STATEWIDE, AND NATIONALLY. THIS FINDERS FOUNDRY AWARD COLLABORATIVELY CREATES A BOUNDED PROTOTYPE OF AN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL (LLM) TOOL AND AI LITERACY LESSON PLANS TO SUPPORT UPPER ELEMENTARY (GRADES 3?5) STUDENTS? ENGAGEMENT WITH SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS HOMEWORK IN WAYS ALIGNED WITH CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS. THE DEVELOPED AND PILOTED BOUNDED AI HOMEWORK LLM WILL BE CONSTRAINED FOR STRUCTURED PROMPTING TO SUPPORT GUIDED REASONING RATHER THAN UNRESTRICTED ANSWERS. THE AI LITERACY LESSON PLANS AND FAMILY-FACING SUPPORTS WILL PREPARE CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS TO USE THE TOOL PRODUCTIVELY AND ETHICALLY. ECHNICAL TASKS INCLUDE DEFINING STRUCTURED?PROMPTING CONSTRAINTS, DESIGNING CHILD?APPROPRIATE EXPLANATION MECHANISMS, AND BUILDING LESSON MATERIALS THAT HELP STUDENTS AND CAREGIVERS INTERPRET AI OUTPUT CRITICALLY. FINDINGS FROM THIS PROJECT WILL PRODUCE A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK TO ALIGN AI TOOLS WITH OUTSIDE-OF-SCHOOL LEARNING CONTEXTS, WHICH CAN THEN BE SCALED ACROSS AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS AND INFORMAL LEARNING MODELS. THIS AWARD REFLECTS NSF'S STATUTORY MISSION AND HAS BEEN DEEMED WORTHY OF SUPPORT THROUGH EVALUATION USING THE FOUNDATION'S INTELLECTUAL MERIT AND BROADER IMPACTS REVIEW CRITERIA.- SUBAWARDS ARE NOT PLANNED FOR THIS AWARD.
