THIS PROJECT WILL SUPPORT THE SONORAN JOINT VENTURE, A BIRD AND HABITAT CONSERVATION PROGRAM THAT BRINGS TOGETHER PARTNERS FROM THE UNITED STATES TO PROTECT, CONSERVE, AND ENHANCE BIRD POPULATIONS AND THEIR HABITATS IN THE SOUTHWEST UNITED STATES. THE AGREEMENT WILL FUND BASELINE DATA COLLECTION, DATA ANALYSIS, TRAINING WORKSHOPS, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, EQUIPMENT, SURVEYS, AND A MONITORING TEAM TO DEVELOP A MANAGEMENT PLAN. IF THIS PROJECT IS NOT SUPPORTED, MIGRATORY BIRD POPULATIONS MAY CONTINUE TO DECLINE, LEADING TO FAR REACHING ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES. AS POPULATIONS DROP, LAND USE RESTRICTIONS COULD BECOME NECESSARY TO PROJECT REMAINING HABITATS, IMPOSING COSTLY LIMITATIONS ON INDUSTRIES AND COMMUNITIES RELIANT ON THESE SPACES.
