The National Science Foundation Division of Engineering Education and Centers awarded $485,663 to the University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc. on December 1, 2026, under the Engineering program (CFDA 47.041) to host an REU Site providing interdisciplinary research experiences in nanotechnology and biomedicine.
The award funds a 10-week summer program hosting 10 undergraduate REU students at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. Each student participates in existing, collaborative research projects applying nanotechnology to biomedical questions, with co-mentorship by paired faculty from nanotechnology and biomedical disciplines. The program includes enrichment activities: an ethics-in-science workshop, weekly presentations on interdisciplinary research and graduate school preparation, a career workshop, facility tours, and opportunities for students to present research findings at conferences. The experience targets expansion of participation in interdisciplinary research by training the next generation of scientists and engineers capable of working across multiple disciplines.
The period of performance runs from December 1, 2026, through November 30, 2029.
