The research aims to tackle fundamental problems in the local geometric Langlands program and explore its applications in areas like two-dimensional conformal field theories in...
- This $330,000 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) program supports research into quantum groups, W-algebras, and Brauer-Kauffmann categories, with a focus on understanding the underlying mathematical symmetries that govern natural phenomena. The principal investigator will develop emerging theories and applications of I-quantum groups, including exploring braid group actions, Drinfeld presentations, and...
- This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) program provides $303,150 to Vanderbilt University's Sponsored Programs Administration Division to conduct research on groups acting on hyperbolic spaces and operator algebras. The key objectives include studying the rigidity properties of acylindrically hyperbolic groups, analyzing groups acting on hyperbolic simplicial complexes, and continuing work on automorphisms of von...
- This $150,000 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) supports research on two open problems in algebraic combinatorics that intersect representation theory and algebraic geometry. The principal investigator and collaborators aim to use combinatorics to better understand these abstract mathematical objects in a more concrete way, with potential applications in mathematics, physics, and human-machine...
CONFERENCE: WEST COAST OPERATOR ALGEBRAS SYMPOSIUM 2025 -THIS AWARD SUPPORTS THE 2025 EDITION OF THE WEST COAST OPERATOR ALGEBRAS SYMPOSIUM (WCOAS), TO BE HELD AT POMONA COLLEGE IN CLAREMONT, CA DECEMBER 6-7, 2025. THE FIELD OF OPERATOR ALGEBRAS BEGAN WITH THE WORK OF MURRAY AND VON NEUMANN AS A MATHEMATICAL FRAMEWORK FOR QUANTUM MECHANICS AND HAS SINCE GROWN INTO AN ESTABLISHED SUBFIELD OF MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS, WITH APPLICATIONS AND CONNECTIONS TO MANY AREAS OF MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES. THIS YEAR?S CONFERENCE WILL SHOWCASE CURRENT TRENDS IN OPERATOR ALGEBRA THEORY AND APPLICATIONS TO OTHER FIELDS, INCLUDING ERGODIC THEORY, NUMBER THEORY, REPRESENTATION THEORY, AND MATHEMATICAL PHYSICS. THE CONFERENCE SCHEDULE WILL FEATURE PLENARY TALKS BY LEADING RESEARCHERS AND EARLY-CAREER MATHEMATICIANS, AS WELL AS NUMEROUS OPPORTUNITIES FOR DISCUSSION AND NETWORKING.
