This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) provides $165,000.00 to North Carolina State University (NC State) to study algebraic invariants of matroids and their applications in combinatorics. The key objectives include: Developing a simpler and more general definition of the intersection cohomology module of a matroid, which will enable positive characteristic analogues of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials and shed...
This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) supports research into combinatorial algebraic geometry, including the study of flag varieties, toric geometry, and applications. The $121,201 award from January 1, 2025 to June 30, 2027 will fund research objectives such as advancing the theory of combinatorial subvarieties of the flag variety, proposing a notion of duality for Newton-Okounkov bodies, and studying...
This National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Mathematical Sciences grant award, titled "Categorical Centers, Cactus Actions, and Diagram Algebras," provides $170,000 in funding to Northeastern University over 3 years, from September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2026. The project will develop a deeper understanding of representation theory, which studies the symmetries of mathematical objects, by combining algebraic, combinatorial, and categorical techniques to investigate quantum groups...
The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $281,250 Project Grant under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) Federal Grant Program to Colorado State University (CSU) to support the 2025 Summer Research Institute in Algebraic Geometry. This large-scale, three-week conference will be held at CSU in Fort Collins, Colorado from July 14 to August 1, 2025. The grant will fund housing for 150 graduate students, postdocs, and early career researchers to attend the institute, which...
This $200,000 National Science Foundation Division of Mathematical Sciences Project Grant will support research and training in noncommutative algebra and geometry at the University of California Irvine from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2025. The award will advance fundamental understanding of noncommutative algebraic structures that arise in geometry and physics. Researchers will develop new techniques to deduce good algebraic properties for geometrically constructed noncommutative algebras and...
This National Science Foundation project grant of $740,162 will fund collaborative research on extremal combinatorics and flag algebras from August 2022 through July 2025. The awardee is the University of Colorado Denver under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049). The research aims to resolve three prominent open questions in extremal combinatorics posed by Erdös, Turán, and Zarankiewicz using flag algebra techniques. The questions concern extremal hypergraph...
This National Science Foundation project grant of $210,000 supports research in algebraic combinatorics at the University of Miami from August 2022 through July 2025. The grant funds three related research projects exploring connections between combinatorics and abstract algebraic structures to gain insights and solve problems in both fields. Specifically, the grant supports continued study of chromatic quasisymmetric functions and their relationship to Hessenberg varieties, investigation of new...
This Project Grant award of $100,000.00 was provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) federal grant program. The award supports research in algebraic combinatorics, which investigates combinatorial structures arising in algebra and geometry. Specifically, the project aims to develop new combinatorial techniques in classical incidence geometry and further the theory and applications of cluster algebras. The research will involve...
This $210,000 Project Grant awarded by the National Science Foundation Division of Mathematical Sciences under the CFDA Program 47.049 "Mathematical and Physical Sciences" will fund research in algebraic combinatorics and braid varieties. The project aims to use algebraic methods to produce new combinatorial results with applications in areas like cryptography, protein folding, high-energy physics, and quantum computing. CONFERENCE: COMBINATORIAL ALGEBRA MEETS ALGEBRAIC COMBINATORICS -THIS AWARD SUPPORTS US-BASED PARTICIPANTS AT THE CONFERENCE ?COMBINATORIAL ALGEBRA MEETS ALGEBRAIC COMBINATORICS? (CAAC) IN 2026 AND 2027. INITIATED IN 2004, CAAC IS AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE HELD IN CANADA THAT BRINGS TOGETHER RESEARCHERS SPECIALIZING IN COMBINATORIAL ALGEBRA AND ALGEBRAIC COMBINATORICS TO SHARE RECENT ADVANCES ON THE INTERFACE OF THE TWO FIELDS. CAAC 2026 AND 2027 WILL EACH FEATURE INVITED LECTURES BY LEADING RESEARCHERS SPECIALIZING IN A VARIETY OF TOPICS ACROSS COMBINATORIAL ALGEBRA AND ALGEBRAIC COMBINATORICS. EACH CONFERENCE PROGRAM WILL ALSO INCLUDE CONTRIBUTED TALKS, A POSTER SESSION, AND TIME FOR INFORMAL MATHEMATICAL DISCUSSIONS. THESE MEETINGS AIM TO FOSTER CROSS-DISCIPLINARY COLLABORATIONS, AND TO SUPPORT EARLY-CAREER RESEARCHERS BY EXPOSING THEM TO IDEAS FROM ADJACENT FIELDS AND GIVING THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH THE GLOBAL MATHEMATICAL COMMUNITY. THE 2026 AND 2027 CAAC MEETINGS WILL INCLUDE LECTURES BY EXPERTS IN ALGEBRAIC, ENUMERATIVE, AND GEOMETRIC COMBINATORICS, AS WELL AS IN COMMUTATIVE AND NON-LINEAR ALGEBRA, AND IN ALGEBRAIC GEOMETRY. EACH PROGRAM WILL BE DESIGNED TO INCLUDE RECENT RESEARCH RESULTS, WITH PARTICULAR EMPHASIS ON CONNECTIONS BETWEEN FIELDS. MORE INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON MEETING WEBSITES; THE CURRENT CAAC WEBSITE IS HTTPS://SITES.GOOGLE.COM/VIEW/CAAC2025. THIS AWARD REFLECTS NSF'S STATUTORY MISSION AND HAS BEEN DEEMED WORTHY OF SUPPORT THROUGH EVALUATION USING THE FOUNDATION'S INTELLECTUAL MERIT AND BROADER IMPACTS REVIEW CRITERIA.- SUBAWARDS ARE NOT PLANNED FOR THIS AWARD.
