This National Science Foundation (NSF) Innovations in Graduate Education (IGE) Track 2 award to the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) will test strategies for supporting the success of all students, particularly those underrepresented in graduate education, in STEM doctoral programs. The $999,699 project, awarded on October 1, 2024, will validate and scale an institutional approach developed in a prior NSF-funded study at UC Berkeley. The research team will work with 10 universities and 60 doctoral programs to refine instruments, collect and analyze multi-institutional data, and identify promising practices for using the resulting insights to drive program-level and campus-wide interventions. This project aims to broaden participation in the STEM workforce, improve educational and career outcomes for all graduate students, and provide evidence to help universities and NSF invest in high-impact practices to support degree completion and career readiness.
