This $274,990 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (TIP) program (CFDA 47.084) aims to support Eascra Biotech, Inc. in developing rod-shaped drug delivery nanoparticles for in-space manufacturing. The project focuses on advancing the regulatory pathway for space-made medicines, using Janus base nanoparticles (JBNPs) as a test case to demonstrate comparability with Earth-made versions. This is a crucial step for commercializing space-made therapeutics, addressing challenges in drug delivery for solid tumors and advancing oncology biotherapeutics. The successful completion of this Phase I project would lay the groundwork for a subsequent Phase II effort to optimize the in-space manufacturing of JBNPs, which have the potential to revolutionize cancer treatment by providing a more effective drug delivery platform.
