THE GEORGIA ORGANIC PEANUT ASSOCIATION WILL CREATEA NEW MARKET FOR AND ENHANCE THE VALUE OF CERTIFIED ORGANIC PEANUTS PRODUCED AND PROCESSED IN GEORGIA. THIS INITIATIVE WILL INVOLVE THE ACQUISITION OF PROCESSING EQUIPMENT DESIGNED TO ENABLE THE FIRST PRODUCTION OF CERTIFIED ORGANIC PEANUT OIL IN THE SOUTHEAST THEREBY EXPANDING PROCESSING CAPACITY AND PREVENTING THE COMMINGLING OF ORGANIC AND NONORGANIC PRODUCTS. THE ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES OF THIS PROJECT INCLUDE A 50 INCREASE IN THE PRODUCTION PROCESSING AND SALES OF CERTIFIED ORGANIC PEANUTS GROWN IN THE REGION AS DRIVEN BY A MARKETING CAMPAIGN. AT LEAST FIFTEEN FARMERS ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST WILL BENEFIT. THE PROJECT WILL RESULT IN ONE PROCESSING FACILITY AND ONE STORAGE FACILITY OBTAINING ORGANIC CERTIFICATION FOR THE FIRST TIME ESTABLISHING A NEW LOCAL SUPPLY CHAIN FOR CERTIFIED ORGANIC COMMODITIES. THE STAKEHOLDERS INVOLVED INCLUDING FARMERS PROCESSORS AND CONSUMERS WILL BENEFIT FROM INCREASED AVAILABILITY OF ORGANIC PEANUTS AND PEANUT OIL. THIS PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO GENERATE A POSITIVE FINANCIAL IMPACT FOR THE PARTICIPATING FARMERS AND ESTABLISH A STRONGER MARKET FOR ORGANICALLY PRODUCED AGRICULTURAL GOODS WITHIN THE REGION.
