Description

Historic drought and increasing feed costs in recent years have forced local dairies to make decisions about the future of their generational businesses. In response to these industry and climate based challenges ferreira SON dairy has embarked on a fiveyear plan to remain selfsufficient by expanding and diversifying production taking over their own distribution thereby cutting the costs of middle distributors. During the first year 20212022 ferriera SON dairy completed the first phase of this expansion building humboldt countys first truly local milk processing and bottling plant. The milk is processed right from the tank bottled into glass bottles then distributed directly to local stores. The next phase of the project is the 11 acquisition of equipment to expand production. The funds from this opportunity will enable the dairy to purchase equipment that will quadruple production from 300 to 2000 gallons per week of milk with diversified fats percentages that can be used to develop produce and distribute other products that will generate more income for the dairy and increase growth of the market for organic products overall in the local economy.
