The Whidbey-Camano Land Trust received a $4,500,000.00 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service's Community Forest and Open Space Conservation Program (CFDA 10.689) on September 7, 2023. The grant funding will be used to acquire and establish the Lagoon Point Community Forest in Washington. As the prime awardee, the Land Trust will oversee land acquisition, habitat restoration, and the implementation of community forest management and public recreation activities on the newly protected forestlands. Additionally, as a sub-awardee under the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Land Trust has conducted habitat restoration and feasibility assessments for coastal areas and diked farmland in the Admiralty Bay region to enhance salmon habitat and community resilience. Through these federal grant activities, the Whidbey-Camano Land Trust aims to protect forestlands, restore coastal and wetland habitats, and provide community benefits such as public recreation, environmental conservation, and educational programs.
