This $200,000 HSI Pilot Project grant, awarded on April 1, 2024 by the National Science Foundation's (NSF) STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076), aims to develop the Center for the Engagement of the Manhattan College Community in Scientific Inclusive Teaching (E=MC2:SIT) at Manhattan College. The goal of the E=MC2:SIT center is to build a sustained faculty community of teaching and learning excellence within the science faculty, focused on improving the success of Manhattan College's first-year STEM majors, including those from Hispanic and other underrepresented groups. Key project activities include: 1) a year-long professional development program for faculty teaching first-year STEM gateway courses, 2) supplemental instruction peer support in those gateway courses, and 3) professional development opportunities for faculty to work directly with first-year students. The project seeks to enhance student success, retention, and persistence to graduation in STEM fields through the adoption of inclusive teaching practices by Manhattan College faculty.
