This $4,662,695 federal Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) "NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships" program (CFDA 47.084) will support the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) in collecting and analyzing data on the application, admission, and enrollment trends of domestic and international students in STEM graduate programs. The project aims to identify pathways and barriers to increasing the size, diversity, and vitality of the advanced STEM workforce, particularly for underrepresented groups. Key research questions include trends in applications, admissions, and matriculation by degree level, field of study, citizenship status, gender, race/ethnicity, disability, and veteran status. The study will also explore the relationship between international and domestic student enrollment in STEM graduate programs. Findings from this 4-year project will provide a robust portrait of the graduate STEM talent pipeline to help guide investments and improve recruitment and admission practices nationwide.
