Emprise Concepts, LLC was awarded a $275,000 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships program (NSF TIP, CFDA 47.084) to develop an innovative computational software tool for characterizing subsurface conditions and reducing risk in underground construction projects. Specifically, the company will create algorithms to automatically integrate geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring data, construction process data, and existing infrastructure and geostatistical models to dynamically update geotechnical parameter inversions in spatial proximity to tunnel construction. The tool aims to provide near real-time ground model updates using data-driven advanced analytics techniques. This Small Business Technology Transfer Phase I award will lay the foundation for a "live" ground modelling tool that can reduce costs and improve sustainability in underground civil infrastructure projects by better addressing uncertainties in ground conditions that influence design and construction.
