Description

We have built a core of partnerships with department of aging, police stations, public schools, faith-based congregations, hospitals, and senior centers. An estimated 184 rsvp volunteers will serve within their communities in geographical area of LOS angeles county: city of LOS angeles community of south LOS angeles; the cities of bell, bell gardens, cudahy, huntington park, lynwood, maywood, vernon, and south gate. These communities are home to a disproportionate number of the one-in-six county residents who were living below the poverty line. According to the census bureau's population estimates for july 1, 2019, persons living in poverty range from 18% for a population of 93,444 in south gate to 29.9% for a population of 42,012 in bell gardens. High unemployment, homelessness, illiteracy, and violence also are disproportionately associated with this area, so the needs of residents are acute and numerous. Based on community needs, all peoples rsvp looks for partnerships and opportunities that fit in with measurable outcomes, allow senior volunteers to give back to their communities, providing active older adults combating unmet community needs and support the role partners play by providing basic services for low income residents. An estimated number of 234 volunteers will serve. Of this number 184 rsvp volunteers will be placed in outcome assignments which will include, healthy futures, disaster services, economic opportunity, and additional volunteers will serve in other community priorities. The primary focus area is disaster services. Disasters often occur with little warning and those that are more likely to be negatively impacted by life altering destruction are those individuals who reside in low-come areas and include the elder population and homebound. Ready.GOV states "while 60 percent of americans say preparation for natural or man-made disasters is very important to them, only a staggering 17 percent of americans claim to be very prepared for an emergency situation, according to a new survey commissioned by the ad council." volunteers will attend trainings class on how to make a disaster preparedness plan and then provide what they learned to members in their community. Within the healthy futures focus area, rsvp has engaged the community in to establishing an intergenerational micro farm that has become an iconic ecological and cultural gathering for the community. Rsvp volunteers will address issues of obesity and food insecurity, checking in on homebound, disabled, and isolated seniors. Within the economic opportunity focus area, all peoples community center is a volunteer income tax assistance (vita) center, and in this capacity, we are able to offer free tax preparation to people who make $56,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited english-speaking taxpayers who need assistance. The cncs federal investment is $80,882 which will be supplemented by $59,829.
