Description
United, we fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in okaloosa and walton counties. To drive positive change, uwec evaluates our community's diverse needs, mobilizes the caring power of the community, and directs resources to the areas that will have the most positive impact. Uwec's role in the community continues to evolve. While uwec has historically been a fundraising entity, we have expanded to a truly unique position to recruit, convene, and collaborate with people and organizations who bring the passion, expertise, and resources needed to get things done. Today, we work with hundreds of individuals and organizations that share a collective vision for what is possible when we unite our efforts. We provide evaluated and measured impacts and investments of funds and volunteer hours based on positive outcomes in three core impact areas of health, education, and financial stability. We are revitalizing our focus on engagement. We are committed to increasing volunteer engagement in our community in an effort to provide purposeful service opportunities to all citizens and visitors. We are committed to enabling citizens to create a better community by engaging in volunteer service with area non-profits, schools, and volunteer programs meant to challenge our citizens to create sustainable solutions to our most pressing community needs. Uwec will recruit, train, and direct volunteer service for an estimated 75 unduplicated volunteers through rsvp. Of this number, 75 unduplicated rsvp volunteers will be placed in outcome assignments. Some of their activities will include: delivering meals to homebound seniors; preparing taxes for low to moderate income households; a reading program to support local children increase school readiness; and a virtual mentoring program to improve students' attitudes and school performance. The primary focus area of this project is education. The cncs federal investment of $75,000 will be supplemented by the required 10% non-federal match of $7,500 in the first year; if continued, the non-federal match increases to 30% over three years.
