AN ESTIMATED 99 RSVP VOLUNTEER WILL SERVE THE NORTH PLATTE AREA RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. OF THIS NUMBER, 80 RSVP VOLUNTEER WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME-BASED ASSIGNMENTS. SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES (HOUSING; BUILDING OR ASSISTING HOMES - HABITAT FOR HUMANITY), EDUCATION (K-12 SUCCESS; TUTORING - PUBLIC SCHOOLS), HEALTHY FUTURES (OBESITY AND FOOD; FOOD PANTRY SUPPORT), AND OTHER COMMUNITY PRIORITIES WHICH WILL ADDRESS VETERANS AND MILITARY FAMILIES, DISASTER PREPAREDNESS & RESPONSE AND HEALTHY FUTURES. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS EDUCATION (K-12 SUCCESS; TUTORING - PUBLIC SCHOOLS). AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT PERIOD 48 RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL INCREASE THE READING SCORES OF 300 STUDENTS EACH YEAR. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $47,500 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $24,471 OF NON-FEDERAL RESOURCES FROM THE CITY OF NORTH PLATTE.
