AN ESTIMATED 230 RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE IN THE UTAH MOUNTAINLAND REGION. OF THIS NUMBER 84 RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE DELIVERING MEALS ON WHEELS TO HOME BOUND SENIORS, PROVIDING NEEDED TRANSPORTATION TO SENIORS, MAKING WEEKLY FRIENDLY CALLS TO HOME BOUND INDIVIDUALS, AND TUTORING K-12 STUDENTS IN LOCATION ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THE MOUNTAINLAND RSVP PROJECT WILL BE HEALTHY FUTURES. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT WE WILL SHOW INCREASED SOCIAL TIES AND SOCIAL SUPPORT FELT BY OUR MEALS ON WHEELS RECIPIENTS, OUR SENIORS RECEIVING TRANSPORTATION SERVICES, AND FROM OUR SENIORS RECEIVING WEEKLY PHONE CALLS FROM OUR RSVP VOLUNTEERS. OUR MOW RECIPIENTS WILL ALSO SHOW INCREASED CAPACITY FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING. WE WILL ALSO SHOW ELEMENTARY STUDENTS IMPROVING THEIR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN LITERACY AND/OR MATH. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $83,485 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $70,000 FROM MOUNTAINLAND ASSOCIATION OF GOVERNMENTS AND OTHER NON-FEDERAL RESOURCES FOR NECESSARY EXPENDITURES TO CREATE A SUCCESSFUL RSVP PROJECT IN THE MOUNTAINLAND REGION.
