Description

As the incumbent sponsor for rsvp in allegheny county for eight consecutive years and five years in beaver county, we firmly believe that pittsburgh cares is exceptionally well positioned to continue in this role for the 2021-2024 grant cycle and beyond. Pittsburgh cares is requesting a grant in the amount of $213,875.00 from the corporation for national and community service (cncs) to continue offering vital and expansive services to adults aged 55 and older. The cncs funds will be supplemented by $96,396.00 in matching, non-federal resources. The mission of pittsburgh cares is to inspire, equip, and mobilize people to take action to affect positive change in our communities. We strengthen the impact of our regional nonprofit partners by effectively engaging individuals, families, youth, seniors, and companies in meaningful volunteer service. With more than 13,000 volunteer connections annually, pittsburgh cares is the primary volunteer action center in the greater pittsburgh region, which includes both allegheny and beaver counties. As the leader in volunteer engagement, pittsburgh cares creates bridges across all sectors in the region- individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools, and government agencies- to meet the most critical community needs through volunteerism and capacity building. Rsvp powered by pittsburgh cares, will connect and place 300 seniors at area nonprofit organizations and educational establishments for ongoing volunteer opportunities. Additionally, pittsburgh cares will host three days of service, 9/11 day of service, MLK day of service, and earth day, to give members from different sites an opportunity to socialize and give back to the community together. Our primary focus area will continue to be aging in place with a focus on transportation, companionship and nutrition & food support. A secondary focus will place rsvp volunteers in the focus areas of education, economic opportunity, and environmental stewardship, where volunteers will serve towards the objectives of k-12 success, employment, and awareness & stewardship, respectively. Pittsburgh cares has an expansive network of more than 300 nonprofit partners and our retired and senior volunteer program has developed strong, long-standing relationships over the last eight years. In a time of uncertainty, we understand the need for consistency for both our nonprofit partners and our volunteers. These relationships are one of the foundational elements that make pittsburgh cares well positioned to continue serving as the local sponsor for rsvp in allegheny and beaver counties. For more than 25 years, pittsburgh cares? Mission has been to support our communities the best way we know how: to empower our neighbors to help one another and to equip our nonprofit partners through volunteer management, supplies, and resources. That mission has not changed. Rsvp has been, and we hope will continue to be, an integral part of accomplishing our mission of engaging volunteers and serving our communities in allegheny and beaver counties.
