OUR MISSION STATEMENT: "SENIORS IN SERVICE ENGAGES VIBRANT AND EXPERIENCED VOLUNTEERS TO ENRICH NORTHERN NEVADA COMMUNITIES ONE LIFE AT A TIME." AN ESTIMATED 87 AMERICORPS SENIORS FGP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE. OF THIS NUMBER, 81 AMERICORPS SENIORS FOSTER GRANDPARENTS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE ASSISTING IN CLASSROOMS, ASSISTING IN CLASSROOM/HEAD START, TUTORING-PUBLIC SCHOOL/FAITH BASED SCHOOL/OTHER, AND SCHOOL BASED MENTORING. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS EDUCATION. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT, AN ESTIMATED 6,648 CHILDREN WILL BE SERVED IN CNCS SUPPORTED K-12 TUTORING/MENTORING, AND 270 CHILDREN WILL BE ASSISTED WITH SCHOOL READINESS IN THE PRE-K SETTING. THE AMERICORPS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $527,913 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY AN ANTICIPATED AMOUNT OF $60,063 OF NON-FEDERAL FUNDING AND IN-KIND SUPPORT.
