EXECUTIVE SUMMARY THE WESTERN ILLINOIS FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM IS SPONSORED BY TRI-COUNTY OPPORTUNITIES COUNCIL (TCOC) A COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY. AN ESTIMATED SEVENTY-TWO (72) AMERICORPS SENIORS FGP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE IN THE COUNTIES OF BUREAU, CARROLL, LASALLE, LEE, MARSHALL, OGLE, PUTNAM, STARK, AND WHITESIDE COUNTIES. OF THIS NUMBER APPROXIMATELY 72 AMERICORPS SENIORS VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE PROVIDING ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT TO CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL OR EXCEPTIONAL NEEDS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS EDUCATION: SCHOOL READINESS AND K-12 SUCCESS. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT, THE OUTCOMES PROJECTED WILL SHOW NO LESS THAN 80% IMPROVEMENT IN EACH OF THE AREAS LISTED. TCOC ESTIMATES 720 CHILDREN WILL BE REACHED IN THIS 3-YEAR PERIOD. THE AMERICORPS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $362,235 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $36,224 WHICH WILL COME FROM THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT ON AGING AND LOCAL SUPPORT.
