THE COMMUNITY PLACE OF GREATER ROCHESTER, INC. (CPGR) DELIVERS HIGH-QUALITY, COST EFFECTIVE PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE GREATER ROCHESTER AREA. CPGR HAS SETTLEMENT HOUSE ROOTS THAT SPAN 100 YEARS AND HOLDS STRONG TO ITS MISSION "TO PROVIDE NEIGHBORHOOD-BASED PROGRAMS, SERVICES, AND RESOURCES WHICH STRENGTHEN THE GREATER ROCHESTER COMMUNITY, ONE PERSON, ONE FAMILY AT A TIME." AS BABY BOOMERS AGE, THE "GRAYING OF AMERICA" IS PROGRESSING AT A PHENOMENAL RATE. IN "A PROFILE OF OLDER AMERICANS: 2019," THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES REPORTS THAT THE NATION IS PROJECTED TO AGE SIGNIFICANTLY. BY 2040 THERE WILL BE ABOUT 80.8 MILLION OLDER PERSONS, OVER TWICE THE NUMBER IN 2000. AS THE NUMBER OF ELDERLY AMERICANS CONTINUES TO INCREASE, THE NUMBER OF FRAIL ELDERS, AND THEIR NEEDS, IS ALSO EXPECTED TO GROW. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS PROJECT, CPGR IS REQUESTING 78 SENIOR COMPANION VOLUNTEER SERVICE YEARS (VSY'S) TO PROVIDE OLDER ADULTS SERVICES THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY. VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOMES BASED ASSIGNMENTS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS AGING IN PLACE. ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE COMPANIONSHIP SERVICES (COMFORT, SOCIALIZATION, READING, LIGHT HOUSEKEEPING, ETC.) AND TRANSPORTATION SERVICES (GROCERY SHOPPING, ACCOMPANYING CLIENT TO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS, PRESCRIPTION DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP, ETC.). AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT, 85% OF CLIENTS RECEIVING COMPANIONSHIP SERVICES OR TRANSPORTATION SERVICES WILL REPORT HAVING INCREASED SOCIAL TIES/PERCEIVED SOCIAL SUPPORT. CPGR IS REQUESTING A CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $507,000 AND WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $129,106 NON-FEDERAL RESOURCES.
