Description

These volunteers will focus on the following needs identified in our service area: transportation assistance, companionship/social support, and respite care. The anticipated outcomes, with the utilization of our 38 senior companion volunteers, and collaboration from our 5-6 volunteer stations, is to be a deterrent in declining physical, social, and emotional health, and help individuals remain in their own homes with the same or improved quality of life for as long as possible. To provide temporary relief from the stresses of care giving by providing short term assistance, to an adult who is the primary caregiver, for a person with chronic disabilities, alzheimer's, developmental disabilities, etc., and prevent premature placement in long term care facilities. A small number of senior companion volunteers will continue their service in assisted living/skilled care facilities. With the CO-VID pandemic however, there may be adjustments made to facilitate the outcomes of our service area. At the end of the three year grant, 63 transportation clients, and 19 companionship clients, will report having increased social support, along with 14 respite caregivers will report having increased social ties and perceived social support. The cncs federal share of $247,366 will be supplemented by $160545.00 of non-federal funds.
