AN ESTIMATED 70 AMERICORPS SENIORS SCP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE. OF THIS NUMBER, 61 AMERICORPS SENIORS VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE: COMPANIONSHIP - AID HOMEBOUND OR OLDER ADULTS AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES MAINTAIN INDEPENDENCE AS THEY "AGE IN COMMUNITY". AMERICORPS SENIORS SCP VOLUNTEERS SERVE AS LIAISONS TO PROTECT SCP RECIPIENTS' SAFETY AND MAKE NECESSARY REFERRALS TO APPROPRIATE AGENCIES. RESPITE CARE - PROVIDE FAMILIES/CAREGIVERS A MUCH-NEEDED BREAK FOR SELF-CARE. TRANSPORTATION - ENSURE SCP RECIPIENTS GET TO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES WHICH THEY HAVE NO OTHER MEANS OF GETTING THERE. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS HEALTHY FUTURES, AGING IN PLACE. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT: INDEPENDENT LIVING SURVEYS WILL SHOW 80% OF THE 150 HOMEBOUND OR OLDER ADULTS AND INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES WHO REPORTED HAVING INCREASED SOCIAL TIES/PERCEIVED SOCIAL SUPPORT. RESPITE CARE SURVEYS WILL SHOW THAT 80% OF 30 CAREGIVERS OF HOMEBOUND OR OLDER ADULTS AND INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES REPORTED HAVING INCREASED SOCIAL TIES/PERCEIVED SOCIAL SUPPORT. INDEPENDENT LIVING SURVEYS WILL SHOW THAT 80% OF 25 RIDERS' NEEDS WERE MET BY GETTING TO THEIR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS, PURCHASING GROCERIES, PICKING UP THEIR PRESCRIPTIONS, AND RETAINING THEIR INDEPENDENCE WITH TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE. THE AMERICORPS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $392,936 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY A MATCH OF $51,510.
