AN ESTIMATED 300 UNDUPLICATED RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE IN ADAMS, CHELAN, DOUGLAS, GRANT, LINCOLN, AND OKANOGAN COUNTIES IN WASHINGTON STATE. OF THIS NUMBER, 250 UNDUPLICATED VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. ONE OF THE ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE EMERGENCY FOOD PROGRAMS IN LOCAL FOOD BANKS, FOOD PANTRIES, AND OTHER EMERGENCY FOOD PROGRAMS. OTHER VOLUNTEERS WILL TEACH FALL PREVENTION CLASSES TO SENIORS, ENABLING THEM TO CONTINUE LIVING INDEPENDENTLY IN THE COMMUNITY. WHILE STILL OTHERS WILL HELP PROVIDE PRESCRIPTION DRUG EDUCATION, SPECIFICALLY IN THE AREA OF OPIOIDS. THESE VOLUNTEERS WILL FOCUS ON OPIOID ABUSE EDUCATION, SAFE DISPOSAL OF ALL PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS, AND WILL PROVIDE TOOLS TO HAVE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT OPIOIDS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS HEALTHY FUTURES. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT CYCLE, AT LEAST 500 SENIORS WILL ATTEND FALL PREVENTION CLASSES, REDUCING FALLS AND ALLOWING THEM TO REMAIN INDEPENDENT IN THE COMMUNITY. AT LEAST 600 SENIORS WILL ATTEND EDUCATION SESSIONS ON OPIOIDS AND PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION AND 500 SENIORS WILL TAKE PART IN THE SAFE DISPOSAL OF ALL PRESCRIPTION DRUGS. FINALLY, VOLUNTEERS WILL PROVIDE EMERGENCY FOOD TO MORE THAN 1000 UNDUPLICATED FAMILIES, HELPING THEM TO MEET THEIR BASIC NEEDS. THE CNCS FEDERAL ANNUAL INVESTMENT OF $122,746 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $62,281 IN LOCAL MATCH FUNDS.
