Description
Aging & independence services (AIS), a division of the county of SAN diego health and human services agency, has served as the sponsor of our region's retired and senior volunteer program (RSVP) since 1996. For this project proposal, in addition to continuing our successful work at current volunteer stations, we will include a new focus area, along with new stations and volunteers. An estimated 1017 RSVP volunteers will serve in our program if awarded this grant. Of this number, 420 RSVP volunteers will be placed in outcome assignments. Two of their key activities will include companionship and disaster preparedness training. The RSVP project will serve the entire area of SAN diego county. The primary focus area of this project is healthy futures. At the end of the three-year grant, 300 clients will be provided companionship services, thus reducing their social isolation, and improving their ability to age in place. The second focus area of this project will be disaster services and volunteer activities will include disaster preparedness training for older adults. At the end of the three-year-grant period, at least 250 community members will be trained in disaster preparedness and will report that they are better prepared for a disaster. In addition to the two main focus areas, approximately 597 additional RSVP volunteers are involved in museum services, law enforcement, and other activities. As the federally designated area agency on aging, and as part of the county of SAN diego, AIS is very well positioned to serve as the grant sponsor. The cncs federal investment of $109,078 will be supplemented by AIS, with a match of $77,641, which exceeds the 30% required match.
