(SNHS) IS A PRIVATE NON-PROFIT CORPORATION CHARTERED IN THE STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE IN 1965 TO SERVE AS THE COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY FOR HILLSBOROUGH AND ROCKINGHAM COUNTIES. SNHS PROVIDES ACTIVITIES TO ASSIST LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS IN THE AREAS OF HEALTH, NUTRITION, FITNESS, HOUSING, ENERGY NEEDS, AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT. AGENCY PROGRAMS ADDRESS ISSUES THAT BLOCK THE ACHIEVEMENT OF SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND THAT PERPETUATE POVERTY. SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE SERVICES' RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (RSVP) HAS BEEN PROVIDING MEANINGFUL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS AGE 55 AND OVER FOR 40 YEARS. AN ESTIMATED 230 RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL PARTICIPATE, 96 OF WHOM WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME-BASED ASSIGNMENTS. HEALTHY FUTURES IS THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA FOR THIS PROJECT WITH 69 RSVP VOLUNTEERS SERVING IN THIS AREA. AS A RESULT OF SERVICES PROVIDED BY SNHS RSVP VOLUNTEERS, AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT, AT LEAST: * 90 INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FAMILIES WILL EXPERIENCE INCREASED FOOD SECURITY * 75 CHILDREN WILL RECEIVE NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION FOCUSING ON REDUCING CHILDHOOD OBESITY * 2,500 SENIORS WILL PARTICIPATE IN HEALTH EDUCATION AND EXERCISE PROGRAMS. OTHER RSVP VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE REPAIRING HOMES THROUGH THE FIX-IT CORP PROGRAM, MENTORING IN THE PEN PAL PROGRAM, SERVING AT LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES, AND ASSISTING OTHER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. RSVP PROJECT STAFF CONTINUALLY WORK WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO IDENTIFY UNMET COMMUNITY NEEDS TO PROVIDE RSVP VOLUNTEER SUPPORT. THE CNCS INVESTMENT OF $118,185 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $50,650 IN NON-FEDERAL RESOURCES.
