Description

The mission of mystic valley elder services, sponsor of middlesex county rsvp is to support the right of elders and adults living with disabilities to live independently with dignity in a setting of their choice. Two hundred and thirteen (213) unduplicated rsvp volunteers will serve; all 213 of them will be placed in outcome assignments where they will provide nutrition and food support to alleviate long-term hunger, counseling on health insurance benefits to facilitate access to health care, tutor at public schools to support student literacy, and assist with financial literacy that will increase the capacity for independent living. The primary focus area of this project is healthy futures including obesity and food, access to care, and aging in place. The other focus area of this project is education with the objective of k-12 success. At the end of the three-year grant, 450 individuals will report increased food security after attending the food pantry 3 times or more, 52 homebound or older adults and individuals with disabilities will report having increased social support after 3 or more months of money management services, and 595 students will have improved their academic performance in literacy after completing 5 or more months in the reading partners program. IT is anticipated that the cncs federal investment of $82,397 will be supplemented by several non-federal resources; the goal would be to raise needed amounts for the rsvp volunteer staffed programs totaling over $235,000. Contributors with long -standing relationships with sponsor mves as well as many newly cultivated contributors are included in the development efforts and both have been engaged for FFY 2020. Grant requests are sent to local corporate funders and private foundations throughout the year. Additionally, direct mail appeals are sent out to our community. Special events and planned bequests also contribute. A few examples of support are as follows: the reading partners program has received $1,500 worth of book donations from 3 donors and houghton mifflin gifted the program with $2,666 worth of books with a pledge to donate $5,334 more during the upcoming grant period; the money management program received $5,000 in first time support from the people's united community foundation and the charles f. Bacon trust renewed their support of $10,000 and the howard c. Connor charitable foundation renewed their support of $10,000.
