THE SENIOR RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (SRDA) IS THE SPONSOR OF THE PUEBLO FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM (FGP). SRDA HAS SUCCESSFULLY ADMINISTERED THE FGP PROGRAM FOR OVER 40 YEARS. THE MISSION OF SRDA IS TO PROVIDE PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS THAT ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE COMMUNITY OF SOUTHERN COLORADO. SRDA PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERGENERATIONAL PROGRAMS AND DEVELOPS THE RESOURCES WHICH ENABLES SENIORS TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY. AN ESTIMATED 57 FGP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE IN THE SRDA FGP PROGRAM. 57 FOSTER GRANDPARENT VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. VOLUNTEER SERVICE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE K-4TH GRADERS DAILY TUTORING IS DONE IN WRITING, READING, SPELLING AND/OR MATH SKILLS. PRE-K CHILDREN SERVICE ACTIVITIES WILL FOCUS ON SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL AGE BENCHMARKS FOR SCHOOL READINESS. THE SERVICE AREAS WILL BE BOTH PUEBLO CITY AND COUNTY PUBLIC, CHARTERED AND FAITH-BASED SCHOOLS ALONG WITH HEADSTART PROGRAMS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS EDUCATION. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT 780 STUDENTS IN K-4TH GRADES WILL GAIN IMPROVED ACADEMIC GRADE LEVEL PERFORMANCE AND PRE-K CHILDREN WILL DEMONSTRATE GAINS IN SCHOOL READINESS. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $292,450 ANNUALLY WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $32,495 ANNUALLY OF LOCAL CASH AND IN-KIND PER YEAR.
