Description

Cesa 10 is committed to ensuring that an estimated 45 foster grandparent volunteers continue to serve in meaningful and impact-based assignments that demonstrate a quantifiable impact on children and communities in our service area. Of this number, 45 foster grandparents will be placed in outcome-based assignments. Their activities include tutoring and mentoring children with special needs in the primary focus area of education for K-12 schools and pre-K/school readiness programs (head start). At the end of the three-year grant period, more than 450 children will have improved academic achievement and/or academic engagement as a result of cesa 10'S FGP. Cesa 10 is asking cncs for a federal investment of $194,544 which will be supplemented with $33,125 in state funding and $20,000 in local and in-kind community support annually. In 1965, the wisconsin legislature recognized the need for a service unit between school districts and the state superintendent. Cooperative educational service agency 10 (cesa 10) is one of 12 in wisconsin and provides services to member school districts and local government throughout the state. The mission of cesa 10 is to assist districts with services they would otherwise have difficulty providing, or services that are mandated by state or federal government. Since 1965, cesa 10 has traditionally offered services in special education, instructional services, and educational technology. In the late 90'S, the facilities management department was created based on school-identified needs, and is now providing services to school districts statewide. Cesa 10 has been providing the foster grandparent program (FGP) to schools since 1987. During the 2019-20 school year, the project paired 38 foster grandparents with more than 150 children in seven counties in west central wisconsin. The foster grandparents logged more than 25,000 hours in the classroom.
