The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) awarded a $200,000 Project Grant under the Women and Minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (WAMS) Fields program to Colorado State University. The project aims to increase enrollment of rural women and minorities in plant/horticultural sciences through a train-the-trainer model. It will develop and deliver plant/horticulture science curriculum for Colorado vocational agriculture teachers, especially women from rural areas. Key objectives include equipping agricultural teachers with horticulture knowledge and skills, preparing them to effectively teach horticulture to students, increasing dual enrollment horticulture course offerings, and boosting enrollment of rural women and minority students in horticulture and plant sciences. The project will take place from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2027 and is expected to support approximately 78 students.
