The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration awarded New Beginnings Counseling Center (NBCC) $2,297,371 under the VA Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program (CFDA 64.033) on October 1, 2025.
NBCC will provide required supportive services including outreach, case management, assistance in obtaining VA benefits, and assistance in obtaining and coordinating other public benefits to very low-income veteran families. The organization may also provide temporary financial assistance paid directly to third parties on behalf of participants for child care, emergency housing assistance, transportation, rental assistance, utility-fee payment assistance, security deposits, utility deposits, moving costs, and general housing stability assistance including emergency supplies. Optional services may include legal assistance and financial management services.
Services are targeted to very low-income veteran families residing in permanent housing, homeless and scheduled to become residents of permanent housing within a specified time period, or after exiting permanent housing within a specified time period and seeking other housing responsive to their needs and preferences.
NBCC, a tax-exempt nonprofit headquartered in Santa Barbara, California, will perform work in California. The period of performance runs through September 30, 2026. The award is classified as a Project Grant, and funds are subject to availability for renewal; grantees may submit renewal applications within timeframes established in subsequent notices of fund availability.
