Description

Toxoplasmosis is responsible for loss of lambs in sheep and kids in goats, thus causing reproductive losses. Sarcocystosis causes neurologic damage to adult horses, causing weakness and gait difficulties. We have developed drugs, called "bkis", which treat toxoplasmosis and sarcocystosis in mouse models. This project will treat pregnant sheep with toxoplasmosis with bkis to see if loss of lambs can be reduced or eliminate. The project will also treat horses with sarcocystosis to see if neurologic damage can be stopped or reversed. The project could markedly improve therapeutic choices for these parasitic diseases.
