About this award

The Huron School District was awarded a $298,964 Project Grant from the Department of Justice Offices Boards and Divisions Community Oriented Policing Program under the Public Safety Partnership and Community Policing Grants (CFDA 16.710) program. The grant will fund coordination efforts between the Huron School District and Huron Township Police Department from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2020. Specifically, the grant will support installation of surveillance equipment and access control systems across district school buildings, with shared law enforcement access. Entryways to schools will also be redesigned with secure lobby areas and communication systems. The products and services enhance safety and security collaboration between the awardee Huron Township Police Department and schools they serve.

Description

This includes coordination of communications and training efforts of our officers, teachers, students, and professional staff. In an effort to increase these lines of communication and cooperation, we are planning to add surveillance equipment to each of the district school buildings, and this system will include lines of access that will be available to the huron township police department. In addition, the district is planning to add building access control systems that will be made available to law enforcement and will make the school buildings more secure. We are also planning to redesign the entry ways to each of the school buildings to include service windows and lobby areas with locked banks of doors, complete with buzzer systems and surveillance cameras.
