The oseola mccarty youth development center (omydc) truly believe that the "youth of today are our tomorrow's future. "our local community of forrest and perry counties in our impoverished, low income community will be the beneficiary of this project. The oseola mccarty youth development center (omydc) plans are to serve youth of low income families which includes: single parent families, families of youth with an incarcerated parent, as well as youth being raised by grandparents. One hundred low income youth are expected to benefit during the first program year. This proposed vista project aligns with the corporation for national and community service (cncs) priority areas: healthy futures, education and economic development. This vista project seeks 3 vista volunteers to help break the cycle of poverty by developing and building sustainable programs that contribute to our goals and mission of empowering youth to win in every area of their lives. Vista project service activities includes the following: (1) material development such as an online moby max tutoring program which is designed to enhance reading comprehension skills, literacy and math skills for 3RD to 8TH grade students attending community low performing schools, (2) community awareness and engagement activities includes initiating efforts and outreach with other community organizations to educate and promote healthy eating behaviors while using our community garden as an education tool, and (3) promote economic opportunities by developing training materials and instructional manuals on soft skills education that provide employability skills for low income high school students. The projected length of this vista project is for up to three (3) years.
