THE TIME STUDENTS SPEND IN SCHOOL IS BEST LEVERAGED WHEN THEIR LEARNING HAPPENS IN TANDEM WITH SERVICE ON THE MOST PRESSING ISSUES OF THEIR COMMUNITY. THE CAMPUS COMPACT VISTA PROGRAM ALIGNS WITH THE EDUCATION FOCUS AREA AND SEEKS TO ENGAGE HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF IN BUILDING THE CAPACITY OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY NONPROFITS TO IMPROVE EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES FOR LOW-INCOME K-12 AND COLLEGE STUDENTS. 16 FULL TIME VISTAS AND 2 VISTA LEADERS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE GOALS OF THE PROJECT BY PERFORMING ACTIVITIES SUCH AS DEVELOPING VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS, MENTORING AND TUTORING PROGRAMS THAT CONNECT OREGON COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES TO STRUGGLING K-12 SCHOOLS, AND LEVERAGING RESOURCES TO BUILD SUPPORTS FOR ADDRESSING EDUCATIONAL INEQUITIES AMONG LOW-INCOME STUDENTS AND STUDENTS OF COLOR. GENERALLY, PROJECTS AT HOST SITES ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME SUSTAINABLE WITHIN THREE YEARS. WE ASSUME THE DEEP INSTITUTIONAL WORK TO ACHIEVE RACIAL JUSTICE AND EQUITY IN EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES WILL BE LONG-TERM, ONGOING GOALS FOR EACH HOST SITE.
