Description

The proposed vista project aligns with the cncs anti-poverty focus area in post-secondary education. We are requesting two vistas to achieve the goals of the fontana career horizons project. The first vista, the "vista mentor leader" will recruit and train a cadre of 10-20 volunteer adult mentors who will benefit 50 or more disadvantaged, low-income and/or english learner adults by providing them with encouragement and support in completing their high school diploma/GED, ESL, U.S. Citizenship and career technical education courses; teaching them how to complete college and financial aid applications; administering career interest inventories and skills assessments; assisting them with resumes, cover letters, interview skills, job search and job retention techniques; job placement assistance, and providing referrals to needed support services in the community. The second vista, the "vista community outreach liaison", will inspire stakeholders in the community to support the fontana career horizons project and our new college, careers and economic development (cced) center; recruit mentors and adult mentees; manage a stakeholders' advisory committee; organize and/or participate in student workshops, events, fairs, guest speakers and field trips; create advertising flyers, videos, postcards, and posters; increase FAS's social media and web presence, and assist with obtaining donations for scholarships and holding fundraisers on behalf of our disadvantaged adult students.
