The mission of the nonviolence institute is to teach, by word and example, the principles and practice of nonviolence, and to foster a community that addresses potentially violent situations with nonviolent solutions. The proposed project fits within the priority area of economic opportunity, including employment/workforce development and housing. The goal of the vista project is to build the capacity of the nonviolence institute in order to effectively serve more than 1800 clients each year that are impacted by violence in our urban core cities. The institute is unique in the field in that we serve perpetrators as well as victims, as we work to build the beloved healthy community envisioned by REV. DR. Martin luther king. The two vistas will contribute to build the capacity of the organization as they identify new donors and new funding opportunities to support our work, adapt our nonviolence conflict resolution curriculum to meet the needs of new audiences and develop the policies, procedures and systems that support effective workflow within the development department and the training department. The work undertaken by the vistas over the next three years will ensure that the nonviolence institute has the resources, systems and capacity to accomplish our mission.
