SOME OF THE VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE HOME-DELIVERED MEALS, SETTING UP AND SERVING MEALS IN A CONGREGATE SETTING, FOOD BANKS, TAX PREPARATION, OPIOID AWARENESS AND PREVENTION PROGRAMS, RED CROSS BLOOD AND DISASTER SERVICES, AND COMMNITY SPONOSRED EVENTS FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS, SENIOR GAMES AND PARKS AND REC. AT THE END OF THE THREE YEAR GRANT WE EXPECT OUTCOMES AS FOLLOWS: HEALTHY FUTURES: HOMEBOUND SENIORS WILL RECEIVE A NUTRITIOINALLY BALANCED MID-DAY MEAL FIVE DAYS EACH WEEK. THIS MEAL WILL BE DELIVERED BY VOLUNTEERS WHO ALSO WILL PROVIDE A SAFETY CHECK AND SOCIALIZATION AS WELL AS ASSISTING IN MEETING DIETARY NEEDS. THIS WILL PROMOTE INDEPENDENT LIVING IN THE HOME AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. VOLUNTEERS WILL ASSIST IN CONGREGATE MEAL PROGRAMS BY PREPARING FOR MEAL SERVICE, SERVING FOOD AT MID-DAY MEALS AND PROVIDING SOCIAL INTERACTION FOR THE CLIENTS BEING SERVED. VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE IN LOCAL FOOD BANKS TO ASSIST IN FOOD DISTRIBUTION PROVIDING RESOURCES AND INFORMATION THAT CLIENTS CAN USE FOR FINANCIAL/JOB SERVICES, EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUNDS, CLOTHING AND AVAILABLE MEDICAL CLINICS. THIS WILL ASSIST IN PROVIDING INCREASED FOOD SECURITY. VOLUNTEERS WILL ASSIST AT LOCAL EVENTS TO RAISE OPIOID ABUSE AWARENESS IN OUR COMMUNITIES BY PROVIDING ASSISTANCE WITH SETTING UP VENUES FOR SPEAKERS, DISTRIBUTING MATERIALS, AND ASSISTING WITH LOCAL "TAKE BACK" DAYS. THIS WILL PROVIDE INCREASED HEALTH KNOWLEDGE TO THOSE ATTENDING TAKE BACK DAYS AND INFORMATIVE PRESENTATIONS. ECONOMIC OPPURTUNITY: VOLUNTEERS WILL PROVIDE ASSISTANCE IN FILING TAXES THROUGH THE VITA PROGRAM FOR THOSE IN OUR COMMUNITIES WHO MAKE LESS THAN $54,000 PER YEAR, ARE DISABLED OR HAVE LIMITED ENGLISH SPEAKING. THIS WILL MEASURE AND ENSURE THE DOLLAR VALUE OF TAX RETURNS GENERATED. OTHER COMMUNITY PRIORITIES: THIS WILL ALLOW VOLUNTEERS AGES 55 AND BETTER TO CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR COMMUNITIES THROUGH SERVICE AND TO ENHANCE THE LIVES OF THOSE WHO SERVE AND ARE SERVED THROUGH MEDICAL EQUIPMENT LOAN CLOSETS, LOCAL BLOOD DRIVES, SPECIAL OLYMPICS, SENIOR GAMES, MUSEUMS, LOCAL SCHOOLS, AND CLOTHES CLOSETS. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $42,770.00 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY YEDDI MATCH OF $11,089.00 AND UNITED FUND OF SURRY IN THE AMOUNT OF $7,226.00. THE RESEARCH BASED NUMBERS PROVIDED ARE GIVEN BY U.S. CENSUS BUREAU, PIEDMONT TRIAD REGIONAL COUNCIL, SURVEYS, VOLUNTEER LOGS, VOLUNTEER STATION RECORDS, DSS AND HEALTH DEPARTMENTS. YADKIN VALLEY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT, INC. (YVEDD) WAS ORGANIZED IN 1965 AND IS A PRIVATE NON-PROFIT CORPORATION DESIGNATED AS THE LOCAL COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY. HUMAN SERVICES AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS ARE ADMINISTERED WITH FUNDING PROVIDED THROUGH FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND UNITED FUND PROGRAMS.
