THROUGH THE OXNARD RSVP, AN ESTIMATED 390 VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE THEIR COMMUNITY, FORMING AN ARMY OF ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS COMBATING UNMET COMMUNITY NEEDS. OF THIS NUMBER, AT LEAST 70 RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS WITH SERVICE ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO HELP AN EXPANDING SENIOR POPULATION TACKLE THE LIMITATIONS OF AGING AND FIGHT OFF THE PARALYSIS OF ISOLATION BY CREATING A WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT OF FREE ACTIVITIES, CLASSES AND GROUPS. ANOTHER 35 VOLUNTEERS WILL DELIVER THE EVIDENCE-BASED PROGRAM TAI CHI: MOVING FOR BETTER BALANCE, WHICH HAS BEEN PROVEN TO IMPROVE THE BALANCE OF PARTICIPANTS. ANOTHER SET OF ABOUT FIVE VOLUNTEERS WILL COMBAT THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC THROUGH SERVICE ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO PREVENT OR REDUCE PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS HEALTHY FUTURES. AT THE END OF OUR THREE-YEAR GRANT, A CORPS OF 70 VOLUNTEERS IN OUTCOME-BASED AGING IN PLACE ASSIGNMENTS WILL HAVE HELPED 305 SENIORS BECOME MORE SOCIALLY ENGAGED AND OF THAT 150 WILL REPORT THEY HAVE CLOSE SOCIAL TIES TO OTHER PEOPLE. WE WILL ACCOMPLISH THIS WITH A CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $67,777 PER YEAR, SUPPLEMENTED BY $105,884 PROVIDED BY OUR SPONSOR, THE CITY OF OXNARD.
