Description

Mary's county under the sponsorship of the department of aging & human services. Of this number, at least 40 rsvp volunteers will be placed in performance measure work plans with outcomes. Our priority focus area is healthy futures. Among our rsvp project's service activities, our senior volunteers will provide access to care by renovating, distributing, and delivering medical equipment free-of-charge to individuals in need, such as the frail elderly, persons with disabilities, individuals recovering from surgery, and disabled veterans. This service helps citizens remain living independently in their own homes close to their social support systems rather than having to go into expensive rehabilitation, assisted living, or nursing home facilities. This service is especially valuable to economically disadvantaged persons who cannot afford to rent or buy the medical equipment they need such as wheelchairs, walkers, and hospital beds. Another way our senior volunteers will help homebound citizens maintain their health and independence is by providing medical transportation services through the senior rides program. This volunteer service activity is especially important in our rural community that offers very limited public transportation options. Senior rides volunteers will provide homebound persons with transportation to important health services, medical treatments, and surgical procedures. Additionally, our senior volunteers will deliver daily meals to homebound persons through a home-delivered meals program, providing homebound persons with the nutrition, wellness checks, and social support they need to maintain their health and independence. In another volunteer service activity important to healthy futures, our volunteers will provide information on local health services, resources, and programs that will enable community members to gain access to the services they need to maintain their health and independence. Our trained volunteers will provide information on health services, programs, and resources at a large-scale community health fair, thereby helping hundreds of community members become aware of the health resources available to them and how to access those resources. At the end of the three-year grant period, more than 1,000 community members of all ages will benefit from volunteer service activities that promote the overall health and well-being of local citizens. At least 240 rsvp senior volunteers will provide volunteer services under this grant. The proposed estimated number of stations for this project is at least 20. The cncs base federal investment of $40,000 will be supplemented by a proposed estimated $60,808 of local, non-federal resources.
