Description

Of this number, 92 rsvp volunteers will be placed in outcome based assignments. Some of their activities include providing education and resources to county citizens on preparing for and access to services post floods to support the disaster preparedness goal. They will support awareness and stewardship, as we are dedicated to providing training and education in partnership with local agencies around appropriate drug disposal options or drug take back plans in an effort to improve the waste management and ultimately the water supply. This also supports the washington county goes purple initiative to reduce the amount of drugs on the street. Volunteers will provide income tax tutoring and support for seniors and those with disabilities. These volunteers are also committed to a variety of community priorities such as food panties, congregate sites, the senior center, the local hospital, hospice and various other non-profits. 62 rsvp volunteers will serve in the primary focus areas under healthy futures. The primary focus areas of this project are aging in place and obesity and food. Through these primary focuses, IT is our intention that the rsvp volunteers will support seniors to age in place by providing a noon meal five days per week to medically home bound seniors in an effort to reducing food insecurity. Our volunteers will also, provide education through a variety of avenues to improve healthy food choices as IT correlates to nutrition and obesity to support the obesity and food primary focus. IT will also provide an opportunity to discuss prevailing health issues facing individuals in our community based on the community needs assessment or other health issues as they raise throughout the year. At the end of the three-year grant, the intention is for our volunteers to provide the services and meet the goals establishing in the work plans. This will be accomplished utilizing three part time employees. The program manager has a proven success record with part time duties in this role. The cncs federal investment of $48,497 will be supplemented by 30% of local county funds and in-kind donations making up $21,200. Our organization has a history of exceeding several of the goals and benchmarks we set for ourselves. We have taken the tag line, "help US help your neighbors" in an effort to increase awareness of the needs in our community and remind individuals how important the impact is to others through volunteer efforts. You never know whose life you will touch through volunteering!
