SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE ASSISTING AT LOCAL FOOD BANKS, DELIVERING MEALS TO THE HOME-BOUND, TUTORING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN IN READING, WORKING IN KITCHENS AT SENIOR MEAL SITES, MAKING HOMEMADE HATS, SCARVES AND LAP BLANKETS FOR LOW-INCOME CHILDREN, THE HOMELESS, AND THE ELDERLY, AND PROVIDING INCOME TAX PREPARATION TO THE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS HEALTHY FUTURES. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT, OVER 3,000 "FOOD- INSECURE" INDIVIDUALS, PER YEAR, WILL HAVE GAINED ACCESS TO FOOD TO LIVE A HEALTHIER LIFE; AT LEAST 120 HOME-BOUND, OLDER ADULTS, OR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES, RECEIVE NUTRITIOUS FOOD AT THEIR HOMES ON A DAILY BASIS; READING PROFICIENCY WILL INCREASE TO GRADE-LEVEL BENCHMARKS IN AT LEAST 80% OF GRADE SCHOOL STUDENTS RECEIVING RSVP SERVICES; SENIORS AND OTHER INDIVIDUALS LIVING IN POVERTY WILL SAVE AT LEAST $90,000 IN INCOME TAX PREPARATION AND FILING FEES THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $74,785 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $32,907 IN LOCAL MATCHING FUNDS.
